32-bit
The length of the internal data path of the CPU.
802.3
An Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard de-
scribing the physical and data link layers of a local area network based on
bus topology and Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detect (CSMAlCD).
application program
A program, such as a financial spreadsheet program, that performs an end-
user task.
ASCII
American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A set of 7- or 8-
bit binary numbers representing the alphabet, punctuation, numerals, and
other special symbols used in text representation and communications pro-
tocol.
backup copy
A copy of data stored on your disk.
backup process
The process of making copies of the data stored on your disk so that you
can recover that data after an accidental loss. You make backup copies on
tape cartridges or on another disk.
barrel connector
A female connector for connecting two sections of Thin Wire cable.
baud rate
The speed at which signals are serially transmitted along a communications
line. One baud equals one bit/second.
