Table 4-4 summarizes the function of the TK50Z indicator lights.

Off Off No power to the tape drive.
On Off Safe to move cartridge release handle. Power is on.
Off On Do not move the cartridge release handle. One
of the following conditions is in effect: power-
up test is occurring; cartridge is inserted but
handle is still up; tape is loading or unload-
ing; tape is stopped.
On On Tape loaded successfully.
Flashing On Tape is in motion (except rewind). Read/write com-
mands are being processed. Irregular fast flash-
ing of green light means tape calibration is oc-
curring (first use of tape).
Flashing slowly Flashing slowly Tape is rewinding.
Off Flashing rapidly Tape or drive fault exists.
4.8.5 Removing a Tape Cartridge
Tape cartridges must be unloaded (rewound) before being removed from
the drive. Rewinding a tape can be done under software control. See your
software documentation for information.
Figure 4-16 shows how to remove a tape cartridge.
