3C-8 FiONf SUSPENSION
CAUTION: This keeps the coil spring
compressed. Use care to support
adequately, or personal injury could
result.
2. Wheel and tire assembly.
3. Shock absorber.
4. Stabilizer bar from lower control arm.
CAUTION: The coil spring is under
lead, if released too quickly personal
injury could result.
5. Install a chain through the spring as a safety
precaution.
6. Lower control arm pivot bolts.
CAUTION: Any handling of springs
must not c a u s e any damage to the
corrosion protection coating on the
springs. Hard steel contact MUST be
avoided. Springs with a damaged
corrosion protection coating should
not be used until repaired. .
7. Slowly lower the jack and remove the safety
chain when the spring is no longer under load.
Remove spring and spring insulator.
-•4-1 Install or Connect
Position the spring and spring insulator into the
upper spring seat. Align bottom of spring with the
lower control arm seat and install.
A safety chain through the spring as a safety
precaution.
Use a jack to slowly raise the lower control arm
and compress the spring.
Align the control arm bushings to the crossmem-
ber and install pivot bolts. Tighten slightly, but
do not apply final torque.
Remove the safety chain.
Shock absorber.
Stabilizer bar. Torque bolt to 17 N-m (12 lb. ft.).
Remove jack supporting lower control arm and
lower vehicle to the ground. With suspension
system at its normal standing height, torque
lower control arm pivot bolts.

• Torque to 50 N*m (37 lb. ft.) + 3/4 turn (270°).

1. Raise vehicle on a hoist and support the lower
control arm with a jack.
CAUTION: This keeps the coil spring
compressed. Use care to support
adequately, or personal injury could
result.

Tire and wheel assembly.
Front spring using procedures described in front
spring removal.
Remove cotter pin from lower ball joint stud and
loosen ball stud nut one full turn.
Using ball joint remover Tool J-26407, loosen
lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.
Lower ball stud nut and lower control arm.

I n s p e c t

The tapered hole in the steering knuckle and
remove any dirt. If any out-of-roundness, defor-
mation, or damage is noted, the knuckle MUST
be replaced.
Install o r C o n n e c t
1. Place lower control arm with ball joint in position
and insert lower ball stud into knuckle boss.
Install ball stud nut.
