To enable or disable the beeps:

As user:
Press
> Preferences > Sounds

Select Beep on key and/or beep on error check boxes.

Press [OK] to validate.
This is a user setting that only lasts as long as you are logged in.
To change the sounds by default:

As supervisor (see How to Log in as Supervisor p.144):
Press
> Default user settings > Default user preferences >
Sounds

Check Beep on key and/or Beep on error to enable the
sounds.
