Camshaft
• Turn the crankshaft clockwise with the box wrench and align
the line
®
on the starter clutch with the index mark @ of the
valve timing inspection hole while keeping the cam chain
pulled upward.
I CAUTION I
Pull the cam chain upward, or the chain will be caught
between crankcase and cam drive sprocket.

I
To adjust the camshaft timing correctly, be sure to
align the line
®
with the index mark @ and hold this
position when installing the camshafts.
• The camshafts are identified by the embossed letters.
• Before replacing the camshafts on cylinder head, apply
molybdenum oil solution to their journals and cam faces.
• Apply MOLYBDENUM OIL SOLUTION to the camshaft jour-
nal holders.

Before installing the camshaft, check that the tappets are
installed correctly.
