6.10 Changing an Operating System Password

This topic describes how to change the admin and root users password to ensure the system
security.
You are forced to change the password when logging in to the system as the admin or root
user for the first time.
If the admin or root user enters incorrect password for three consecutive times within 5
minutes, the account will be locked.
Do not attempt to log in to the client when the user account is locked, because the system will
recalculate the lock duration.
Step 1 Log in to the Linux operating system as the admin user.
Step 2 Run the following command to change the operating system password.
passwd
Enter the new password as prompted. The following information is displayed:
admin@Huawei:~$ passwd
Changing password for admin
Authentication password:
Enter the new password (minimum of 6 characters)
Please use a combination of at least two types of characters

The default IP address is 192.168.0.120.
The default password of the admin user is ChangeMe123.
To change the password of the root user, you must run su - root to switch to the root user. The
default password of the root user is HuaWei123.
If a DHCP server is configured and camera IP addresses can be automatically obtained, the
automatic discovery tool or platform can obtain the camera IP address when the camera IP address is
changed.
You can log in using the SSH protocol and a remote login tool.

6 Routine Maintenance
Function
check the log_reset file under /usr/log/.
This log records device exceptions, which
helps maintenance personnel to locate
faults. To view the log, log in to the Linux
operating system as the admin user. Run
the su - root command to switch to the root
user, and check the ExceptionInfo.log file
under /usr/log/.
