PRIMEQUEST 1000 Series General Description
CHAPTER 4 Functions Provided by the PRIMEQUEST 1000 Series
4.2
Management by the MMB
This section provides an overview of the MMB management function and its operating environment.
4.2.1
MMB functions
The MMB firmware runs on a processor on the MMB. Its functions, as listed below, enable management of an
entire system.
Also, it controls the entire system in linkage with PSA (on the PRIMEQUEST 1800E) or SVS (on the
PRIMEQUEST 1800E2), the BIOS firmware, and the BMC firmware.
- System management functions
- Hardware monitoring
- Power control
- Cooling control
- Web-UI functions for system management
- Partition configuration control
- Memory Mirror mode settings
- System initialization
- User privilege management
- Scheduled power supply operations
- Maintenance of each firmware
- Saving and restoring setting information
The MMB firmware provides an interface to higher-level operations management software via SNMP or IPMI.
4.2.2
MMB firmware
The firmware on the MMB manages the hardware configurations, manages the partition configurations, monitors
hardware, and controls power in the PRIMEQUEST 1000 series.
As shown in
FIGURE 4.1 Basic
The MMB is also connected to all kinds of sensors through an internal bus.
The MMB firmware uses these internal cabinet networks to monitor and manage the entire system at all times in
linkage with the BMC firmware and PSA (provided only with the PRIMEQUEST 1800E) or SVS (on the
PRIMEQUEST 1800E2) installed in each partition. It provides an interface to higher-level operations management
software via SNMP or IPMI.
The MMB firmware controls the server in linkage with PSA (provided only with the PRIMEQUEST 1800E), SVS
(on the PRIMEQUEST 1800E2), or other firmware (the UEFI or BMC firmware).
4.2.3
MMB operating environment security
This section describes the security in the MMB operating environment.
SSL support
architecture, the MMB is connected with each hardware component via a LAN.
