Software Technologies

The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series uses the following types of software to increase reliability, availability, and
operability.

1.5.1 Firmware
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series has the following main types of firmware installed for hardware management and
operation. For details, see
- UEFI (BIOS) firmware
The UEFI firmware operations include setting up the BIOS, diagnosing and initializing memory areas for
the operating system, performing write/read tests of I/O registers, selecting a boot device, and setting the
boot device sequence.
- BMC firmware
The BMC firmware provides the text console redirection, video redirection, remote storage, and other
functions.
- MMB firmware
The MMB firmware provides an interface for hardware monitoring and various operations.
1.5.2 Operating system and virtualization software
- Windows
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series supports Windows Server 2003 (supported only by the PRIMEQUEST
1800E) and Windows Server 2008, which support x64 and x86 processors (R2 supports 64-bit only), and
Windows Server 2012. So customers can continue using their existing assets.
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series supports Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008, enabling
server integration with virtualization using Hyper-V2.0.
Furthermore, in an alliance with Microsoft, Fujitsu has established a strong support system in mission-critical
fields.
- Linux
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series uses and supports the global standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux as a platform.
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series also supports the virtualization software used by Red Hat Enterprise Linux,
so it is suited to server integration using the latest virtualization technology.
- VMware
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series uses and supports VMware as a virtualization platform.
High-performance servers are required to integrate/aggregate and efficiently use numerous servers using
VMware. The servers must provide high reliability because of the significant effect of any problem in an
aggregated system.
