Firmware

The firmware for the PRIMEQUEST 1000 series consists of the following firmware:

- UEFI (BIOS) firmware

- BMC firmware

- MMB firmware

- I/O device firmware

This section describes the features of each firmware.
3.5.1 UEFI (BIOS) firmware
The PRIMEQUEST 1000 series uses UEFI (United Extensible Firmware Interface) firmware, which is becoming
an industry standard. The UEFI firmware has the BIOS setup menu that enables various settings.
The UEFI has a variety of functions. They include functions for loading various UEFI drivers, diagnosing and
initializing memory areas for the operating system, performing write/read diagnosis of various I/O registers,
selecting a boot device, and setting the boot device sequence.
3.5.2 BMC firmware
The BMC firmware runs on the BMC mounted on an SB. It enables communication between the firmware or
software running on a partition and the firmware on the MMB.
The BMC firmware has the following functions:
- Video redirection function
- Text console redirection function
- Remote storage function
3.5.3 MMB firmware
The MMB firmware runs on the MMB. Its functions enable management of an entire system in the PRIMEQUEST
1000 series.
Also, it controls the entire system in linkage with PSA, the UEFI firmware, and the BMC firmware.
3.5.4 I/O device firmware
The I/O controller firmware runs on the controller connected through PCI Express. It controls the I/O interface.
