36 Chapter 3: Matrox Iris GT with Windows XPe
Introduction
This chapter describes the specifics of your Matrox Iris GT operating under
Microsoft Windows XPe. Windows XPe is a subset of the Windows XP operating
system. Selectively-chosen Windows XP components are included in the
embedded operating system, while other components are excluded.
The Windows XPe operating system takes advantage of the Write Filter utility
which allows you to protect specified data (such as, data in your operating system
folder) from being overwritten inadvertently or corrupted during a power failure.

The components included in the Windows XPe configuration distributed with
Matrox Iris GT are:
• Auto-logon capabilities.
• A pre-set batch file, autost.bat, which launches the following start-up utilities:
- Matrox XP Configuration utility, referred to as the XPConfig utility.
- Matrox Services Synchronization utility, referred to as the SyncServ utility.
• Device Update Agent (DUA) service.
• Default local administrative user accounts.
• User account management.
• .NET framework runtime libraries.
