Troubleshooting
If a zero calibration is still necessary, the ultrasonic sensor
can be detached and calibrated with a separate Polytron 8900
UGLD instrument under workshop conditions.
Calibration can be aborted at any time. To abort calibration
select back.
Prerequisites:
– Calibration is prepared.
To perform a zero calibration:
1. Attach silencer cap to the sensor up to the stop.
2. Enter the menu, see 6.6.3 Entering the menu.
3. Select Calibration > Zero calibration and confirm.
 The Maintenance signal is transmitted by the analog
interface, no alarm or fault relays are switched and the
symbol
is displayed.
 The message Apply zero gas is displayed.
4. Ignore the message Apply zero gas, select Next and
confirm.
 The current value is displayed.
5. Once the displayed value is 54 dB, perform calibration.
a. Select calibrate and confirm.
 The message please wait... is displayed.
 The new zero value is displayed.
b. Select Next and confirm.
6. Select Next and confirm.
 The instrument returns to the calibration menu.
7. Detach the silencer cap.
The silencer cap must not be soiled. Store the silencer cap in
a clean environment. Dräger recommends storing the silencer
cap in the calibration kit case.

Performing a span calibration
Calibration can be aborted at any time. To abort calibration
select back.
Prerequisites:
– Calibration is prepared.
Refer to figure C on the fold-out page.
To perform a span calibration:
1. Check the tubing for holes. The tubing must be leak-proof.
2. Attach the pressure regulator to the compressed air (or
nitrogen) cylinder.
3. Fit calibration adapter to the sensor up to the stop and
orientate the pipe parallel to the mark on the sensing head
housing (figure B 5 on fold-out page).
4. Make sure the gas escapes the calibration adapter freely
within 25 cm (10 inch) from the calibration adapter.
5. Connect the tubing to the barbed fitting.
6. Enter the menu, see 6.6.3 Entering the menu

7. Select Calibration > Span calibration and confirm.
 The Maintenance signal is transmitted by the analog
interface, no alarm or fault relays are switched and the
symbol
 The parameters for calibration are displayed:
Gas : UGLD
Unit: dB (or %)
Concentr.:50
8. Adjust the number at concentration to the number printed
on the calibration adapter.
9. Select Next and confirm.
 The message Gas flow ON is displayed.
10. Select Next and confirm.
 The current value is displayed
11. Apply the gas flow.
After the displayed value is stable by +/- 1 dB:
12. Select Next and confirm.
 The message please wait... is displayed.
 The new current value is displayed.
13. Select Next and confirm.
14. Turn off air flow and remove the calibration adapter from
the sensor.
If the current value is not within the alarm range:
15. Select Next and confirm.
 The instrument returns to the calibration menu.
The calibration adapter must not be soiled. Store the
calibration adapter in a clean environment. Dräger
recommends storing the calibration adapter in the calibration
kit case.
