COMMUNICATION AND CONTROL
HIGH-SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET SYSTEM
The airborne high-speed data system provides a two-way data connection between ground-based Internet providers and
the aircraft while in flight. This system relies upon onboard avionics to provide satellite communications to ground
network service points and to provide network access to passenger devices enabled for WiFi on the aircraft.
The primary airborne satellite network service is the Gogo Business (Gogo Biz) Aviation Air To Ground (ATG) 5000
system that uses the proprietary Gogo Biz network. Gogo Biz has an exclusive air-to-ground link and a network of
terrestrial transceiver sites that provide a high-speed, two-way data connection to the Internet for aircraft in flight at
more than the Gogo Biz system's minimal height above ground level.
Note: The Gogo Biz network is also known as the Aircell High-Speed Internet (AHSI) network.
The Gogo Biz network terrestrial transceiver sites are connected through the Gogo Biz Aviation Network Operations
Center (NOC) to provide Internet access comparable to a ground-based WiFi hotspot. The ATG 5000 unit provides
Internet access through the Gogo Biz network only while the aircraft is over 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) above ground
level within the United States.
Note: The Gogo Biz network also provides access for application-enabled PEDs to the Gogo Vision video service whenever the
aircraft is on the ground and within a supported cellular service area. See the Entertainment System Description for details.
The Gogo Biz Aviation data communication system consists of an ATG 5000 unit, two external air-to-ground antennas,
and a Universal Cabin System (UCS) 5000 Ethernet routing system. The UCS 5000 system consists of a UCS 5000 unit
with a Terrestrial Modem (TM) Subscriber Identification Module (SIM), an Axxess Configuration Module (ACM), and an
RJ-45 Ethernet maintenance port. The UCS 5000 unit interfaces to any devices enabled for WiFi in the aircraft through
the cabin WiFi antennas.
