The SGI Modular InfiniteStorage NAS system is a high-density, integrated storage server
platform. The MIS NAS always uses a 4U rackmount system, and can be either a compute and
storage server, or a "Just Bunch Of Disks" expansion storage unit (MIS NAS JBOD unit). The
MIS NAS Server Platform and up to 4 MIS NAS JBOD enclosures can be mounted into an SGI
42U (D-Rack). Other third-party 19" racks may be used if they are capable of supporting the MIS
NAS structural weight requirements. Check with your SGI sales or service representative for more
information on third-party racks.
Features of the modular design of the MIS NAS system include:
Storage drives can be 3.5" or 2.5" SAS drives.
Up to 72 (3.5" or 2.5") storage drives in the MIS NAS Server enclosure (two are reserved for
boot purposes).
Up to 81 (3.5" or 2.5") storage drives in an MIS NAS JBOD enclosure.
4U chassis: height 6.94" (176mm), width 16.9" (429.2mm), depth 36" (914.4mm).
Caution: SATA drives are not supported and cannot be included in the MIS NAS enclosures
due to vibration conflicts with SAS drives.
Up to four MIS JBOD units can be attached to one MIS NAS server head node.
The MIS NAS server uses two Intel® Xeon® series processors per NAS motherboard.
Eight DDR3 DIMMs are used per MIS NAS motherboard.
Up to 4 HBAs for a single server, full-height (4.25") and half-depth (3.375"), externally or
internally facing.
There are an additional two internally facing, half-height and half-depth HBAs per NAS
server module, used by the system.
Up to 3 PCIe riser cards for an MIS NAS system.
The two SAS boot drives per MIS NAS server are configured as ZFS mirrored drives.
Dual Gb-Enet networking ports onboard, with optional Gb-Enet, 10-Gb Enet or 8-Gb
FibreChannel PCIe cards.
