Chapter 2
MIS NAS System Hardware Installation
This chapter provides a hardware setup checklist and instructions to help you get the Modular IS
NAS operational. If the MIS NAS hardware is already installed in a rack and cabled together as a
system, continue on to
Chapter 3, "MIS NAS Operation and GUI Startup,"
hardware and confirm your SGI NAS GUI operation settings.
Inspect the shipping container that the Modular IS NAS was shipped in and note if it was damaged
in any way. If the enclosure shows damage, file a damage claim with the carrier who delivered it.
Decide on a suitable location for the rack that supports the weight, power requirements, and
environmental requirements of the Modular IS NAS enclosure. It should be situated in a clean,
dust-free environment that is well ventilated. Avoid areas where heat, electrical noise, and
electromagnetic fields are generated. Place the enclosure rack near a grounded power outlet. Refer
to
"Warnings and Precautions" on page
It is important that you inspect all equipment received from a shipping carrier before signing for
the shipment. Be sure to do the following when you arrive at a site to install equipment and when
you receive equipment directly from a shipping carrier:

Inspect the shipment.

Does the number of pieces received match the bill of lading?
•
Have boxes been opened or is there damage to the packaging?
•
Has the Tiltwatch indicator been triggered, indicating that the shipment was tipped?
•
Has the Tiltwatch indicator been removed?
•
After removing the packaging, is there any visible damage?
