FRONT DRIVE SHAFT

REMOVAL

1. Perform the "Bearing Carrier Inspection / Removal"
procedure listed under the "FRONT BEARING
CARRIER" section within this chapter.
NOTE
Perform all removal steps with the exception of
removing the steering tie rod end. It will not be
necessary to remove the tie rod end from the front
bearing carrier when removing the front drive shaft.
CAUTION
Serious injury may result if machine tips or falls. Be
sure machine is secure before beginningthis service
procedure.
2. Remove the drive shaft from the front bearing carrier.
3. With a short, sharp jerk, remove drive shaft from the
front gearcase.
4. Refer to the "DRIVE SHAFT SERVICE" procedure if
repairing the drive shaft.

INSTALLATION

1. Install new spring ring on the end of the drive shaft.
Apply an anti-seize compound to splines.
2. Align splines of drive shaft with front gearcase and
reinstall the drive shaft. Use a rubber mallet to tap on
the outboard end of the drive shaft if necessary.
Lightly tug on the shaft to make sure the retaining
ring is locked into the front gearcase.
3. Install drive shaft into the front bearing carrier.
4. Perform the "Bearing Carrier Installation" procedure
listed under the "FRONT BEARING CARRIER"
section within this chapter.
