Hydraulic Cylinder

REMOVE

WARNING
Put blocks under each fork. Position blocks on
both sides of the drive wheel. The blocks must
prevent the lift truck from falling and causing per-
sonal injury or damage.
1. Raise the forks of the lift truck to maximum height.
2. Place blocks under the forks and block the drive
tire.
3. Lower the forks onto the blocks.
4. Remove the drive unit compartment cover from
the
lift
truck.

5. Remove the top center and main center covers,
covering the hydraulic cylinder. Refer to Figure 6
for Step 6 through Step 9.

6. Open the battery tray so that the backside of the
top center cover is showing.
7. Remove the capscrew securing the cover to the
frame and lift the cover from its position.
8. Remove the three nuts securing the main center
cover to the frame and remove the cover.
9. Remove the retainer from the lift cylinder rod.
10. Manually compress the lift cylinder while holding
the lower switch.
11. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic line from the lift
cylinder.
12. Remove the lift cylinder from the lift truck.

REPACKING

CAUTION
Lubricate the seals, packing, and O-rings with
clean hydraulic oil before assembling.
CAUTION
Make certain that none of the sealant gets into the
cylinder. Allowing sealant to get into the hydraulic
system may cause damage to the components
within the hydraulic system.
1. Remove the gland nut from the lift cylinder barrel.
See Figure 7.
2. Remove the piston rod assembly from the lift cyl-
inder barrel.
3. Remove the end plug from the lift cylinder barrel.
4. Remove the O-rings, rod seal, and the wiper from
the gland nut.
5. Remove the O-ring from the end plug.
6. Remove the two wear rings from the piston rod
assembly.
7. Install the new O-rings onto the end plug and in-
stall the end plug into the barrel.
8. Install the new wear rings onto the piston rod as-
sembly and insert into the barrel.
