The default memory configuration for an A–Series blade is one 512 MB dual inline memory
module (DIMM). You can install 512 MB or 1 GB DIMMs in an A–Series blade.
Note:
A1010 blades operate with a single DIMM and with a combination of DIMMs of different
sizes and speeds. When an A–Series blade uses equally-sized DIMMs in pairs, the memory
controller uses interleaved memory for better performance.
The following list details recommend memory configurations for A1010 blades (DIMM
channels are shown in
•
512 MB—One 512 MB DIMM in DIMM_A1 (factory default configuration, uses
non-interleaved, single–channel memory)
•
1 GB—One 512 MB DIMM in DIMM_A1, one 512 MB DIMM in DIMM_B1 (adds one
DIMM, uses interleaved dual-channel memory)
•
2 GB—One 512 MB DIMM in each DIMM slot (adds three DIMMs, uses interleaved
dual-channel memory)
•
3 GB—Two 512 MB DIMMs in each DIMM slot of one channel, and two 1 GB DIMMs
in each DIMM slot of the other channel (adds three DIMMs, uses interleaved dual-channel
memory)
Note:
Notes:
•
For optimum memory compatibility, use only ClearCube-supplied memory.
•
Always install DIMMs with the same CAS latency in the same channel.
•
Using mismatched DIMMs slows performance. With equal-sized DIMMs, a mismatch in
speed or timing causes the blade to operate at the speed of the slower of the two DIMMs.
With different-sized DIMMs, the system always runs in non-interleaved mode at the
slower speed or timing of the two DIMMs.
•
In single-channel configurations, you can install memory in any of the four slots.
•
In dual-channel configurations, install only identical (same speed, size, and vendor)
DIMM pairs for each memory channel (see
–
–
•
DIMMs installed into any three sockets will function in single-channel mode.
•
If you install four 1 GB memory modules, Windows may report less than 4 GB of
available physical memory when four 1 GB memory modules are installed, as Windows
allocates memory space for other devices.

Upgrading and Maintaining Blades and Components
Use only PC3200 (DDR-400), non-ECC, non-registered memory.

ClearCube does not support filling three memory slots. In three-slot configurations,
installed memory operates in single-channel mode only. Installing memory in
configurations other than the recommended configurations can cause memory sizing
errors or system boot failure.
Install identical DIMMs in all four sockets.
—OR—
Install an identical DIMM pairs in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 (blue sockets) and the
other identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2 (black sockets).
