Starter Solenoid

The relay is a remote switch (Figure 12) that connects the battery to the starter motor when the ignition switch is
turned to START. The relay protects the ignition switch from the high current drawn by the starter motor.

Testing

1. Disconnect the relay from the wiring harness.
2. With a multi-meter set to the OHM setting, check to ensure that terminals 85 and 86 have approximately 70-
85Ω resistance (Figure 13).
3. With a multi-meter set to the OHM or continuity setting, check to ensure that terminals 30 and 87a have
continuity (Figure 13).
4. With a multi-meter set to the OHM or continuity setting, check to ensure that terminals 30 and 87 do not have
continuity (open) (Figure 13).
