7. Maintenance instructions for the ROBO-WRIST joint
The ROBO-WRIST joint may be impaired by contaminants after being
used for some time. The following steps can help to restore its unrestricted
function.
1. Remove the two visible Allen head screws using a 1.3 mm Allen wrench
and loosen the tension ring.
2. Remove the two slip rings and lift out the ball joint assembly.
3. If possible, push the web assembly up and out from the bottom.
4. You may find it helpful to use snap ring pliers or two small hooks on the
ends of a paper clip to pull the web assembly out over the two openings.
5. Remove the two screws from the bottom of the web plate using a 2.0 mm
Allen wrench, set the coil spring aside in a safe place and push the
actuator assembly out.
6. Clean disassembled parts thoroughly in isopropyl (rubbing alcohol), shake
out any excess alcohol from the actuator assembly and dry the parts (e.g.
with a hairdryer).
7. Reassemble in the reverse order.
8. After reinstalling the actuator assembly, the coil spring and the web plate
in the web assembly, make sure it is centrally aligned and the screws are
about ½ turn from being tight. This automatically centres the web assembly
when it is pushed down into the lamination ring. If it goes down all the way,
pull it up again, tighten the two Allen head screws and push it back down.
9. Reinsert the two Allen head screws in the tension ring, aligning the
screw holes with the openings in the slip rings as you do so. Insert one
screw into the teardrop shaped hole and turn it one to two turns. With
the tension ring level, turn it clockwise to the stop. Reinsert the opposite
screw again and tighten both screws without over-tightening them.
