INSTALLING THE CAM SHAFTS

1. Install:
• tim ing chain guide (intake side) 1
2. Install:
• intake cam shaft sprocket
• exhaust cam shaft sprocket
3. Install:
• exhaust cam shaft
• intake cam shaft
• exhaust cam shaft caps
• intake cam shaft caps
a. Turn the crankshaft clockw ise.
b. When piston #1 is at TDC on the com -
pression stroke, align the TDC a
m ark on the pickup coil rotor w ith the
crankcase m ating surface b.
c. Install the tim ing chain onto both
cam shaft sprockets and then install
the cam shaft sprockets onto the cam -
shafts.
CAUTION:
ACHTUNG:
Do not turn the crankshaft w hen install-
ing the camshaft to avoid damage or
improper valve timing.
NOTE:
M ake sure that the punch m arks c on
the cam shafts face up.
d. Install the exhaust and intake cam -
shaft caps.
Camshaft cap bolt
10 Nm (1.0 m • kg)
NOTE:
M ake sure that the punch m arks c on
the cam shafts are aligned w ith the
arrow m arks d on the cam shaft caps.
Out of alignm ent → Reinstall.
e. Rem ove the w ire from the tim ing
chain.
