CHECKING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY
NOTE:
Since M F batteries are sealed, it is not
possible to check the charge state of the
battery by m easuring the specific grav-
ity of the electrolyte. Therefore, the
charge of the battery has to be checked
by m easuring the voltage at the battery
term inals.
1. Rem ove:
• rider seat
Refer to " SEATS" .
2. Disconnect:
• battery leads
(from the battery term inals)
CAUTION:
ACHTUNG:
First, disconnect the negative lead 1,
then the positive lead 2.
3. Rem ove:
• battery
4. M easure:
• battery charge
a. Connect a digital voltm eter to the bat-
tery term inals.
Tester positive probe → battery posi-
tive terminal
Tester negative probe → battery
negative terminal
NOTE:
• The charge state of an M F battery can
be checked by m easuring its open-cir-
cuit voltage (i.e., the voltage w hen the
positive term inal is disconnected).
• No charging is necessary w hen the
open-circuit voltage equals or exceeds
12.8 V.
b. Check the charge of the battery, as
show n in the charts and the follow ing
exam ple.
Example
Open-circuit voltage = 12.0 V
Charging tim e = 6.5 hours
Charge of the battery = 20 ~ 30%
