8.2.2 Checking the Track Tension

Check the track tension on the outdoor vehicle at regular
intervals. Proceed as follows:
1) Load the centre of the crawler track with a weight
(3 kg).
2) Place a straightedge on the crawler track in front of the
weight.
3) Measure the slack in the crawler track between the
straightedge and the crawler track profile at the lowest
point (see Fig. 24).
→ The crawler track tension is correct if it has
1.3 cm – 1.5 cm of slack.
INFORMATION
The crawler track tension can also be measured without a
straightedge: in order to do so, measure the distance from
the floor to the bottom of the loaded crawler track. If the
distance is 20 cm – 21 cm, the crawler track tension is cor­
rect.
