Remove the System/Core I/O Board

To get to the System/Core I/O Board, you will first need to remove all cards and cables that connect to
the System/Core I/O Board. These include the following:
EMI shielding
Processor/Memory card
EISA/HSC cards
Rear panel connector cables
Cables connected to the System/Core I/O Board inside the cabinet (peripheral, power supply, fan,
power switch, and display panel cables).
Remove the EMI Shielding
D Class servers with a hot-swap bay have EMI shielding that covers the Processor/Memory card. The
EMI shielding routes the fast/wide SCSI ribbon cable from the interface card to the hot-swap
backplane. R Class servers also have EMI shielding that covers the Processor/Memory card. The
shielding in R Class servers also acts as an air baffle to direct airflow through the system interior.
To remove the D Class EMI Shield:
1. Push up the bottom of the EMI shielding and slightly bend the sheet metal until the two notches (1)
at the bottom of the shielding clear the two tabs on the Processor/Memory card.
2. Pull the EMI shielding down slightly until the two notches at the top come loose from the tabs (2)
on the firewall at the top of the cabinet.
3. Remove the SCSI ribbon cable (3) from the Fast/Wide SCSI interface card.
4. Disconnect the other end of the SCSI cable from the connector on the hot-swap backplane.
5. Pull the cable and EMI shielding away from the cabinet and set it aside.
