Power System Troubleshooting

Table 3-1 provides some initial power-on type troubleshooting suggestions. For other
power system problems, refer to the more detailed descriptions and procedures in this
section.

Table 3-1 Power-On Troubleshooting

SYMPTOM
No front panel display, no
LEDs and System is not
operating.
No front panel display and
the system is operating.
The power system consists of a Power Supply and a System/Core I/O Board. Table 3-1 is
a basic block diagram of the power system:

1. If PowerTrust is installed
a. Check that the power output cable is connected from the
PowerTrust (UPS) output receptacle to the system AC input
receptacle.
b. Check that the AC power cord from the UPS is plugged into
the AC power source receptacle.
c. Check that the UPS output switch is in the ON position.
d. The UPS AC Output indicator should be green (AC power is
being supplied).
e. Disconnect the power cable from the system AC input
receptacle. Disconnect the AC power cord from the UPS,
connect it to the system AC input receptacle, and then plug it
into the AC power source.
f. If there is a display on the panel, replace the UPS. Otherwise,
continue to Step 2.
2. Check for AC power at the power source. Plug another device into
the receptacle. Check the circuit breaker or breaker panel. Reset
the circuit breaker if necessary.
3. If AC power is present and no display
a. Check internal cables, System/Core I/O board to front Panel.
b. Replace Power Supply.
c. Replace the System/Core I/O board
d. Replace the Processor/Memory board.
If the operating system is running with no problems.
1. Shutdown the operating system.
2. Check internal cables, System/Core I/O Board to front panel.
3. Replace the front panel.
4. Replace the System/Core I/O Board.
