service
A set of elementary streams intended to be broadcast on a specific channel. Also known as a
"program" or a "channel".
SFP Module
A card for the MN20 multiplex which converts optical data into electrical data and vice versa.
SFS
Streaming File System.
SI
Service Information. A set of standardized tables that supplements MPEG PSI. These tables (for
DVB) include the BAT, NIT, SDT, EIT, RST, and TDT. ATSC PSIP is also SI.
SIA
Serial Input Adapter. An input card for MV family encoders for use with DiviTrackXE.
SIMD
Single instruction, multiple data.

single mode fiber
Optical fiber designed for the transmission of a single ray of light. It is used for long-distance
signal transmission. For short distances, multimode fiber is used.
SMA
Audio adapter used in the early MV family of encoders. It can compress two stereo pairs of either
analog or digital audio into either MPEG-1 layer II or Dolby Digital (AC-3) formats.
SMB
Audio adapter (incorporated on the main board) used in the early MV family of encoders. It can
compress two stereo pairs of either analog or digital audio into either MPEG-1 layer II or Dolby
Digital (AC-3) formats.
SMC
Server Management Console.
SMP
Session Management Protocol.
SMPTE
Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, primary creator of motion imaging standards
for TV, digital cinema, and film.
