NVRAM
Non-Volatile Random Access Memory. NVRAM is usually implemented using static RAM with a
battery backup system, which enables it to retain data after the power is turned off.

OAM
Operations and Management. OAM is responsible for control and management of the system,
including configuration, fault detection, and alarm reporting.
On-board adapter
A variant of the AHC audio adapter mounted on the video compression card of an Ion SD, Ion
HD, Electra 5400, Electra 7000, or Electra 8000 encoder.
OIM
OC-3/ATM input module. Receives an MPEG-2 TS over a 155-Mbps ATM optical interface.
OPEX
Operating expense.
OS
Operating system.
OSD
Onscreen Display. Text and graphics which is displayed on the monitor while a program is being
viewed.
output transport
An NMX term, an output transport contains all of the output devices for a transport in a single,
easy-to access place. Output devices can include devices such as an ATM interface, ASI interface,
and so on. The output transport enables you to access the menus needed to create the circuits and
programs that the
devices, and output devices only have input ports. These input ports connect to the output of
either an encoder (in a small system) or a remultiplex (in a large system).

packet
A block of data used for transmission.
PAL
Phase Alternate Line. The analog composite television standard used in much of Europe and
Asia. PAL transmits 625 lines per frame at 25 frames per second using interlaced scanning.
