Gloss banding Gloss banding Introduction Solve gloss banding on your print. Banding that is a disturbance in the gloss of the print in the carriage direction, repeated every swath. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved.
  • Page 219 Gloss banding 2. When you print in [High Quality] print mode and you see gloss banding in a swath, tune (depending on your media type) the [Printer platen temperature] with steps of 2 degrees Celsius . 2. Tune the [Precure] setting with small steps of 1 or 2, when printing in [Speciality], [High quality], Change the media settings on page 55 [Production] print mode.
  • Page 220: Banding At Swath Boundary

Banding at swath boundary Banding at swath boundary Introduction Solve banding at swath boundary on your print. Banding that shows at swath boundary as light lines, dark lines, or gloss differences. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved.

Banding within swaths Banding within swaths Introduction Solve white/light lines within a swath or complete light or darker swaths on your print. It appears in one or various colors. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved.
  • Page 223 Banding within swaths 4. Check if the [Media thickness] setting in the RIP is correct. Change the media settings on page 55 After you finish When the problem is not solved, contact your application specialist or local Service representative. Chapter 8 - Troubleshooting and support...
  • Page 224: Wrinkles In Black

Wrinkles in black Wrinkles in black Introduction Solve wrinkles in black on your print. Wrinkles show as rough repeating patterns especially in black. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved. Wrinkles Procedure 1.
  • Page 225: Graininess

Graininess Graininess Introduction Solve graininess on your print. Graininess is a visibility of non-uniform distributed ink drops on your print. The reason for this can be incorrect alignment or coalescence. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved. Graininess Procedure 1.
  • Page 226 Graininess [5] Without coalescence no graininess visible 6. Select a higher quality print mode. Select a print mode on page After you finish When the problem is not solved, contact your application specialist or local Service representative. Chapter 8 - Troubleshooting and support...
  • Page 227: Unsharp Lines And Text

Unsharp lines and text Unsharp lines and text Introduction Solve unsharp lines and text on your print. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved. Procedure 1. When you see a HALO effect caused by exceptional spreading of ink on the media before curing, Select a print mode on page select a faster print mode.
  • Page 228 Unsharp lines and text [8] Text at low temperature 3. Perform media calibration. Calibrate the media on page 4. Check if the media settings in the RIP are correct, especially [Media thickness]. Change the media settings on page 5. Perform printhead calibration. Calibrate the printhead on page 167.
  • Page 229: Fisheye

Fisheye Fisheye Introduction Solve fisheye on your print. Fisheye are tiny white dots created by retraction of ink. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved. Fisheye Procedure Select a print mode on page 1.
  • Page 230: Smudging

Smudging Smudging Introduction Solve smudges on your print. Smudging of ink occurs because the top layer is not fully cured. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved. NOTE Note that smudging usually improves over time (hrs). Smudging Procedure 1.
  • Page 231: Adhesion

Adhesion Adhesion Introduction Solve problems with adhesion, especially for self-adhesive vinyl applications in [High quality] print mode. When the ink does not settle on the media sufficiently, you can have issues with adhesion. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved.
  • Page 232: Media Touches

Media touches Media touches Introduction Prevent media touches from happening. When the media touches the printhead or printhead carriage, the print gets pollutes or smudged. Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved. Media touches Procedure 1.
  • Page 233: Solve Specific Media Transport Problems

Solve specific media transport problems Solve specific media transport problems Next to specific quality problems resulting in artefacts, you can also see media touches or a lower print quality caused by media transport problems. Problems in media transport can usually be observed through the top cover when you watch the media being transported over the platen.
  • Page 234: Wrinkling Media

Wrinkling media Wrinkling media Introduction Solve media touches or print quality artefacts caused by the wrinkling of media in the transport direction. When you are using a weaker media such as textile or canvas which is not fed in the printer correctly or you are using a media type that is humid-sensitive, the media can start to wrinkle on the platen in the transport direction.
  • Page 235: Waves In Media

Waves in media Waves in media Introduction Solve media touches or print quality artefacts caused by waves in the media. When media is weak and or of a relatively narrow media width (<1000mm) the vacuum suction can be too low and the media will start to move over the platen in a wave motion.
  • Page 236: Curling Media

Curling media Curling media Introduction Solve media touches or print quality artefacts caused by the curling of media. When you are using a stiff media at the leading edge of the roll, the media can get a leading edge curl. When you are using a multi-layer based media with high ink coverage at the side edge or a media stored in high humidity, the media can get a side-edge curl.
  • Page 237 Curling media 4. Use a different media type. Chapter 8 - Troubleshooting and support...
  • Page 238: Drifting Media

Drifting media Drifting media Introduction Solve printing over the side edges of the media caused by the drifting of media. When media is not rolled up evenly on the core or the media is not fed in the printer correctly, the media will drift on the platen.
