Meaning
A repetition operator like + or *, ex-
cept the number of repetitions is spe-
cified by min and max.
Matches expr1 or expr2.
Grouping operator to consolidate
terms into a subexpression, which
can override the order of evaluation.
The subexpression is available for lat-
er matching or editing by means of
\index, where \index is between 1-9
and refers to the index-th group in
the string, counting from left to
right. \0 refers to the whole expres-
sion.

Overriding evaluation order: (ab)*c
