3 Theory of operation
• 13. 1 Switching duties
The
Freeway
control system can operate in one of two modes:
normal mode
special test mode
In normal mode, the way in which the control card operates is dependant on the
protocol defined for each of the general remote
ports.
There are three
configurable general remote ports that can each support one of a number of
different protocols (including an OEM protocol) to provide a very flexible router
control system.
Freeway
can be configured to operate as a basic system controller, a local
controller or as combinations of the two
.
The ability to support an OEM protocol gives the added option of being able to
integrate
Freeway
into non Pro-Bel oriented systems.
In special test mode, the control card accepts commands via the editor terminal
in order to allow testing of the hardware and re-programming of the flash EPROM.
A cyclic LED and crosspoint bus test is performed in this mode.
• 13.2 Freeway block diagrams
The two following block diagrams illustrate typical set-ups for
Freeway.
The way
in which the system operates is wholly dependant on the configuration of the
general remote ports. The first diagram shows Freeway behaving as a router, being
controlled by an external control system. The second illustrates Freeway
configured as a basic system controller, where two of the General Remote ports
are configured as multi-drop panel ports and the RS232 port selected to be the
Editor/configure port
.
