Procedure

The analyzer, GC/MS interface, and other components in the analyzer chamber
WARNING
operate at very high temperatures. Do not touch any part until you are sure it is cool.
Dangerous voltages exist inside the analyzer chamber, which can result in fatal
WARNING
injury. Do not open the analyzer chamber door for any reason. If access is ever
required, trained service personnel must first disconnect the instrument from the
building power source.

The GC operates under high temperatures. To avoid burns, do not touch any GC parts
WARNING
until you are certain they are cool.

10 Finger tighten the fitting.
11 Tighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn to fix the ferrule to the column.
12 Slide the column into the GC/MS interface.

Slide an interface nut and conditioned ferrule onto the free end of the GC
column. The tapered end of the ferrule must point towards the nut.
Use the column cutter to score the column 2 cm from its end.
While holding the column against the column cutter with your thumb,
break the column against the edge of the column cutter.
Inspect the end for jagged edges or burrs. If the break is not clean and
even, repeat steps 4 and 5.
Wipe the end with alcohol.
Insert the column into the column measuring tool.
Slide the column so that the end projects 1–2 mm past the end of the tool.
