ADJUSTING THE IGNITION TIMING

NOTE:
Make sure that the carburetor
synchronization, the throttle link adjustment
and the pick up timing are normal before
implementing ignition timing adjustment.
1. Check:
• Ignition timing (full retard)
• Ignition timing (full advance)
Incorrect
Ignition timing (full retard):
ATDC 2°±1°
Ignition timing (full advance):
BTDC 19°±1°
Checking steps:
(1) Install timing light 1 onto the spark
plug lead of cylinder #1.

(2) Start the engine
(3) Operate the throttle to the fully closed
position and check that magneto
control lever 2 contacts full advance
stopper 3.
(4) Using timing light 1, check the
ignition timingat full retard.
(5) Operate the throttle to the fully open
position and check that magneto
control lever 2 contacts full advance
stopper 4.
(6) Using timing light 1, check the
ignition timing at full advance.
2. Adjust:
• Cylinder #1 piston stroke and timing
plate position
Cylinder #1 piston stroke (BTDC):
2.42 ± 0.24 mm (0.095 ± 0.009 in)
Timing plate position:
BTDC 19°±1°
Adjusting steps:
(1) Remove the spark plug of the cylinder
#1.
(2) Install the dial gauge 5 into the spark
plug hole of the cylinder #1.
