9. AR-PK4 installing procedures

A. General
To install the PS kit (AR-PK4), follow the procedures below.
1) Install the PS firmware ROM.
2) Enter the PS expansion kit product key.
3) Install the PS font.
4) Install the PS printer utility software.
B. Check items
The following items must be prepared for use of the AR-PK4.
• PS firmware ROM (standard accessory of the AR-PK4)
• CD-ROM with the PS printer utility software in it (standard
accessory of the AR-PK4)
• PS expansion kit product key
• Hard disk unit (Must be installed to the main unit.)
• ROM's of the late version as shown below (the following ver-
sions or later)
BOOT: 1.9 PCL: 5.1x ICU: 5.15 PCU: V5.09 SCN: 5.08
OPE: 5.14
Use SIM 22-5 to check that each version is as shown above or
later one.
• 512MB of expansion memory is required. (Plus 128MB of
onboard memory, total 640MB.)
C. PS firmware ROM installation
1) Turn off the main unit power.
2) Remove the printer controller PWB.
3) Install the PS firmware ROM to the printer controller PWB
[CODE-3] slot.
(There are the boot ROM, the program (PCL) ROM, the font
ROM, and the PS ROM in this order from outside of the PWB.)
4) If the capacity of expansion memory is insufficient, expand
512MB memory. (640MB in total, together with 128MB of
onboard memory).
5) If the hard disk is not installed, install it to the main unit.
6) Install the printer controller PWB to the main unit.
7) Turn on the main unit power.
8) Enter the PS expansion kit product key in the key operator
program mode.
9) Reboot the main unit.
10) After the main unit goes into the print ready state, use SIM 22-
5 to check that the PS firmware version is displayed.

D. PS font data installing procedures
The PS font installing and uninstalling procedures for the AR-
BC260 series model with PS option are described below.
(Note) The PS fonts are licensed by Afga Monotype Corporation.
The PS fonts in the CD-ROM of the AR-PK4 may be
installed only to one machine according to the license con-
tract. When, therefore, HDD is replaced for repair, etc.,
uninstall the font data from the HDD.
(1) PS font installing procedure
a. Necessary tools
1) PC (with a CD-ROM drive and a LAN port or a parallel port)
2) LAN cable or parallel cable
3) PS driver CD-ROM
b. Installing procedure
1) Preparation and check
• Connect the printer and the PC with a LAN or a parallel
cable.
• Check to insure that the printer ready LED is lighted.
• In the case of LAN connection, print the printer setting list
and check the printer IP address.
• In the case of LAN connection, check to insure that the net-
work is properly set and the printer can be accessed.
• Set the PS driver CD-ROM. (Suppose that the CD-ROM
drive is "D:" drive.)
2) Open the OS prompt.
3) Shift to the PS font directory in the CD-ROM.
> d:
> cd cidfont
(Note) The PS font data are stored in a hidden folder on the root
directory of the PS driver CD-ROM. If the hidden folder set-
ting is valid, the hidden folder is not displayed on the DOS
prompt. To display it, disable the hidden folder setting.
Installation can be executed regardless of the above folder
display. To disable the hidden folder setting, however, per-
form the following procedures.
(Right-click the "cidfont" folder in the CD-ROM to open the
property. Click the general menu tab, and uncheck the hid-
den file check box.)
4) Execute the PS font install command.
a) In the case of LAN connection (When the printer IP
address is 10.36.14.191.)
> install 1 10.36.14.191 ENTER KEY
b) In the case of parallel connection
> install 2 ENTER KEY
5) Execute the procedures according to the display.
(Execute the underlined procedures.)
(Example)
D:\cidfont>install 1 10.36.14.191
Font data are installed via the network.
