dialup problems or not connecting at all.

line unless it uses a analogue to digital convertor.
5. The modem should be put through the modem test described in the 'Testing' section of the service
manual. The telephone line and cable must be tested prior to this procedure, ideally with a known
working unit.
6. Record any consistent error messages, if one particular code is received on every dial attempt and you
know that a) The telephone line and cable are fine b) The details in internet account settings are
correct and known to work and c) You've tried another hard disk(s) then it is most likely a fault with the
modem or motherboard.
7. A successful dialup is when a connection to the ISP is established and begins to authenticated the
username and password. Access to the Gracenote's CDDB online database, the actual album lookup
is not hardware related.
MODEM FINAL DIAGNOSIS:
1.
The modem is fully operational (pending final testing) if the following is true:-

It consistently connects to the ISP (This excludes actual album information lookup)
2.
It should be replaced only if the following is true :-
•
You have tested the telephone line and cable.
•
The internet account details have been entered correctly and the ISP account is known
to work.
•
You tried another hard disk to isolate a software problem.
•
The modem exhibits a consistent error message.
