Fitting a Hard Disk drive (HDD)

CAUTION:
Hard disk drives are sensitive to electrostatic discharge, ensure that you are properly earthed before
attempting to remove the board. Handle the HDD carefully, holding it by the edges and do not
stress. Keep it in static proof packing while out of the unit. The motherboard front panel display
socket carries x volts on pin x, do not under any circumstances attempt to connect a cable plugged
in this socket into the hard disk drives or CDROM drive. This will short circuit the attached device
and/or motherboard rendering it inoperable.
TOOLS:

PROCEDURE:

1.
Remove the Hard disk bracket (See page *DA_REMOVE_HARDDISK_BRACKET*)
2.
Before the HDD can be fitted, you need to check the rear jumper setting. New and service
exchange drives should have already been labeled and setup as either primary or secondary,
however we recommended that you check this is set correctly. See the diagram on the hard
disk's label for the correct jumper position. The jumper is located between the IDE cable and
power sockets.
3.
The sockets on the hard disk are positioned towards the down folded metal end of the bracket.
4.
Gently slide the HDD into the bracket. The primary HDD is fitted at the top and the secondary
HDD is fitted below. You may need to loosen the other HDD's screws to make it easier to
insert, if one is already fitted.
5.
Line up the holes, secure and tighten two 2xM4 screws on either side of the HDD.
6.
Repeat from step 2 if fitting more than one HDD.
7.
Fit the Hard disk bracket. (See page *DA_FITTING_HARDDISK_BRACKET*)
8.
Inserting the IDE cable into the HDD(s). The cable has two connectors, the primary HDD uses
the middle and the secondary HDD uses the top. Finally, this is plugged into the hard disk IDE
socket on the motherboard (PL8).
