MISCELLANEOUS PROBLEMS
1. When I point the remote control at the unit from about 10-20 feet away there is no response.
§
Check that the batteries in the remote control are fully charged and that it can work at the same
distance with another unit.
§
Remove the front panel metal work and make sure that the IR receiver is properly aligned with
the template on the front panel display board. With the power removed, carefully position the
receiver so that its both flush with the chassis and visually aligned with the template. Do not
apply excess force during the process as the pins of the IR receiver could possibly break.
2. The serial/controller port is not working.
§
Check that the controller port cable is plugged into the motherboard socket marked PL20.
§
The baud rate for the connection can be set in the software (Main Menu --> Settings --> System
Settings --> Controller Settings). It is set to 38600 by default which most controlling devices
use including our own XiVA Producer.
§
It can be tested using a PC running the latest version of XiVA Producer and a null modem cable
connected between the unit and PC. See the 'Testing' section of this service manual for more
detail.
§
Replace the cable and re-run the XiVA Producer test.
§
Try another hard disk(s) to determine if it is the software.
§
Finally, swap out the motherboard.
3. The fan does not work or spin for a few seconds on power up.
§
Check that the fan is plugged into the motherboard in the socket marked 'fan'.
§
Try plugging in another fan.
4. The unit has intermittent problems.
§
Intermittent problems can be difficult to diagnose, start by replicating the fault and then start to
methodically substitute hardware components. For example, try another hard disk(s) and then
motherboard etc until the fault is isolated.
