Handshaking
The procedure used to control how data is sent between devices. For
example, in serial communication, you can choose either DTR/DSR
or XON/XOFF protocol to control the data flow. See also Flow
Control Conflict.
Hard Disk
A disk made of magnetic material and sealed into a drive or
cartridge. A hard disk can store a large amount of data. The
Accel-a-Writer 812 can support multiple external hard disks via the
SCSI port.
HP-GL
A page control language developed by Hewlett-Packard Company
for its plotters. Your Accel-a-Writer 812 contains an HP-GL 7475A
plotter emulation of this language.
HP PCL
A page control language developed by Hewlett-Packard Company. It
is the laser printer language used by HP LaserJet printers, and the
Accel-a-Writer 812 has an emulation of this language.
Imageable Area
The actual area on a page where the printer can print. For example,
on the Accel-a-Writer 812, printing done on 8.50" x 11.00" (216 mm
x 279 mm) media has an imageable area of 8.21" x 10.77" (209 mm
x 274 mm).
Interface
The place where two devices are physically connected, allowing
them to communicate with each other.
Interface Cable
A cable that connects two computer devices so that they can
communicate. The common forms of communication are the
following: Centronics parallel, serial, and AppleTalk.
