ExposureControl
Manual exposure control is recommended in the
lollowing
situations:
• when shootin_ usin_ revelse lighting or when lhe
bact_round
is loo bright.
• When shootin_ on a reflectfve natural background
such as at the beach or when skiing.
• When the bact_ground is oveily dark or the
subjecl is bright:
Setthe Power Switch to "_"
while pressing down
the Lock Button located on the switch. Open the
LCD monitor flltly or pull out the viewfhder fully.
Press EXPOSURE. The exposure control
indicator appear.
Rotate the MENU Wheel towards "+" to
brighten the image, or towaMs "-" to darken
the image. (maximum +-6)
Press the MENU Wheel in. Exposure
adjustment is complete.
To Return To Automatic
Exposure
Control...
.., press EXPOSURE twice or s_t the Powel Switch to
,,rl -. (If EXPOSURE is plessed once, the camcorder
will entel the exposure control mode again,)
To Brighten
The Subject Quickly...
.,, press BACKLIGHT. []
is displayed
and the
subject is brightened. If plessed again, []
disappears and the brightness letums to the
previous level.
• +3 exposule has the same effect as the
BACKLIGHT Button,
• Using BACKLIGHT Button may cause the hght
around the subject to become too blight and the
subject to beconle white.
• Backhght compensations is also awdlable when
the Powel Switch is set to "n ".
NOTE:
Backti_ht_ spotlight (_ pg. 47) r onlpensation and
"SNOW (_ " p_: 47)" have no effect when tile
manual exposure conlrol mode is engaged.

Use this lunction in the following
situations:
• When shooting a moving subject:
• When the distance to the subject changes (so it_
size in the LCD monitor or the viewfinder
changes), such as when Ihe subject is backin_
away.
• When shooting on a reflectfve natural background
such as at the beach or when skfing.
• When shooting objects under a spotlight.
• When zooming.
When the subject is dose, keep the iris locked.
Even when the subject moves away from you, the
image wile not darken ol bdghtem
Before the following steps, perform steps 1 and 2
of "Exposure Control".
Ad just zoom so that the subject fills the LCD
monitol
ol the viewfinder, then press and hold
the MENU Wheel for over 2 seconds. The
exposule control indicator and "[]1" appear.
Press the MENU Wheel in. "[]1" changes to
"[I. " and the iris is locked.

To Return To Automatic
Irls Control...
-. press EXPOSURE twice so that the exposure
control indicator
and "[]1" disappear.
Or, set the
Power Switch to "D %
To Lo_:kThe Exposure Control And The Iris...
-. after step 2 of "Exposure Control", adjust the
exposure rotating the MENU Wheel. Then lock
the iris in step 3 of "his Lock". For automatic
locking, press EXPOSURE twice in step 2. The
iris becomes
automatic
after about 2 seconds.
Iris
Like the pupil of the human eye, it contracts in well-
lit environments to keep too much light from
entering, and dilates in dim environments to allow in
more light.
