Working With the Flash File System
This chapter describes how to use the Flash file system on the Catalyst enterprise LAN switches.

The Flash file system provides a number of useful commands to help you manage system image and
configuration files. The Catalyst 4500 series, 2948G,2948G-GE-TX, and 2980G switches have one Flash
device: bootflash.

Working With the Flash File System on the Switch

The following sections describe how to work with the Flash file system.

Setting the Default Flash Device

When you set the default Flash device for the system, the default device is assumed when you enter a
Flash file system command without specifying the Flash device.
To set the default Flash device, perform this task:

Set the default Flash device for the system.

Verify the default Flash device for the system.
This example shows how to change the default Flash device to bootflash: and verify the default device:
Console> (enable) cd bootflash:
Console> (enable) pwd
bootflash
Console> (enable)
