This section describes various difficulties that might occur, the possible
causes for the difficulty and procedures you can follow to try and solve the
problem yourself. This section also describes how to print reports.
Out-of-Service Codes
If the MERLIN Attendant detects a problem, the unit enters an out-of-service
state. The LED labeled "battery" on the front panel blinks a specific number
of times, pauses, then repeats the pattern. Refer to Table 3-1 for a list of the
Out-of-Service codes.
NOTE:
The MERLIN Attendant will not answer calls while it is out of service. The line
will continue to ring until the receptionist answers or the caller hangs up.
If the "battery" light blinks once, pauses and blinks again, make sure all
appropriate announcements are recorded. See "Playing Back
Announcements" in Chapter 2, "Programming Features of the MERLIN
Attendant."
If the problem persists or the "battery" light blinks more frequently, use a
straightened paper clip to press the recessed reset button on the back panel
of the MERLIN Attendant.
NOTE:
Pressing reset does not affect the programming or recorded announcements.
If pressing reset does not correct the problem, the MERLIN Attendant should
be replaced.
