Power-Up and Power-Down Procedures

Power-Up Procedure

NOTE
Turn on power to the monitor connected to the LPr before you
power-on the LPr. This allows proper auto-configuration of
video output of the LPr as it boots up.
When you press the power button on the control panel, the LPr powers up and
loads the operating system. The system runs a set of diagnostic tests (POST)
during this process. For details refer to Chapter 13, "Troubleshooting."

Power-Down Procedure

1. Log off all users. Back-up files. Follow instructions in your network
operating system (NOS) documentation to gracefully shut down all
networking software and applications.
2. Press the power switch on the HP NetServer's control panel when
prompted by the operating system. Normally this is the complete
procedure.
NOTE
The power supply will continue to provide standby current to
the NetServer until the power cable is disconnected from the
rear panel.

Connecting AC Power to Multiple-Server Configurations

If you install several HP NetServers on one circuit, inrush current may be a
problem. If there is a power failure and power is then restored, all the servers
immediately begin to draw inrush current at the same time. If the circuit breakers
on the incoming power line have insufficient capability, they may trip and thus
prevent the servers from powering up. For additional information on power
requirements, see Appendix A, "Specifications" or see the "Power Cabling"
section in the Rack Cabling Reference for the HP NetServer LPr.
