Replacing a Server Board

Removing the Server Board

1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See
Information" on page
2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable.
3. Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see
System Cover" on page
4. Remove the processor air duct. For instructions, see
Duct" on page
5. Remove the PCI riser assembly. For instructions, see
Assembly" on page
6. Detach all cables connected at the front of the server board:
Note: Use caution when disconnecting cables. Pull only on the cable connector, not on the
cable.
— Main power. The cable end is labeled P1 for the server board at the right and P2

— Sys_fan_3
7. Detach the cables connected at the rear of the server board:
— USB_2_3
— SATA_0
8. Remove the heat sink and the processor. For instructions, see
Sink and Processor" on page
9. Remove the DIMMs. For instructions, see
10. Remove the six screws from the server board. See letter "A" and the arrows
indicating the screw locations in the figure below. Lift the server board from the
server system. See letter "B" in the figure.
