Guard and Counter Description
The PCSS-A0, A0 Plus, A1 and A2 models combine the functionality of a counter and a guard
to ensure safe and efficient operation of the press brake.
The two main components are:
•
High Speed Dual Counters (PCSS-A0 Plus/A1/A2), or a High Speed Single Counter
(PCSS-A0).
•
The Guarding System.
The high speed counters monitor machine movement, while the guarding system allows
either a Lazer Safe transmitter/receiver, or a light guard, or a combination of both to be
connected to the PCSS-A.
5.1
Guard Operation
The guard system interfaces with the Lazer Safe transmitter/receiver, or third party light
guarding systems such as light curtains. It ensures the shortest possible stopping distance
or stopping time when an obstruction is detected by the guarding system. With a Lazer Safe
transmitter/receiver the response time from an obstruction occurring to the solenoid output
control is less than 4ms. When using a third party light guard system the response time is
1ms, plus the response time of the light guard.
All Lazer Safe laser guarding systems combine a transmitter and receiver installed on either
side of the pressing beam for detection of obstructions during operation of the press brake.
The protection zone moves with the punch of the press brake, with the protection extending
in front of, and behind the punch. This tool based protection zone allows the operator to have
freedom of movement at all times during a high speed pressing beam operation, while
minimising the need for low speed operation, therefore increasing productivity.
The PCSS-A0/A0 Plus supports the LZS-1, LZS-2 and LZS-2-FG laser guard systems, while
the PCSS-A1/A2 supports all Lazer Safe laser guard options. All models support third party
light guarding.
The LZS-1 projects a planer laser approximately 50 mm wide under the tool tip, which
provides a protection zone in front of and behind the punch. The laser is detected by the
receiver on the other side of the pressing beam by a single multi-photocell sensor in a 40 mm
wide reception window.
The LZS-2 and LZS-2-FG systems are functionally identical; the LZS-2-FG is configured to
mount onto the Lazer Safe folding machine mounting brackets. The LZS-2/LZS-2-FG
transmitter projects a block of laser light approximately 48mm x 30mm around the tool tip,
and the laser is detected in the receiver by two multi-photocell sensors in a 48mm x 30mm
receiver window.
The IRIS, IRIS Plus and LZS-XL guarding systems project a block of laser light that is
detected by a digital camera and processed by an advanced image data processing system
in the receiver. The IRIS block laser is approximately 50mm x 40mm; the IRIS Plus and LZS-
XL block lasers are approximately 83mm x 72mm. The actual safety zone around the tool tip
measures 30mm x 30mm.
In all systems the receiver detects the laser light in three zones; the front, middle and rear of
the tool. LED indicators on receivers and PCSS-A display which zone has been obstructed.
The LZS-1 system can be used for lower speed machines operating at speeds of up to
approximately 150 mm/sec and short-stop machines.
The LZS-2 can be used for high-speed machines operating higher than 150 mm/sec,
providing a slow speed distance down to 4mm.
