Note:
In some situations where large die V widths are used with very thin material (less
than 2mm) it is possible that the material is unable to be detected causing the
down movement to stop and reporting the condition code 4203. The operator
will still be allowed to move the pressing beam down after releasing the down
switch but only in crawl speed with the 4257 condition code being reported.
However in this situation the mute point position will be unable to be confirmed.
Under such circumstances it may therefore be necessary to place a magnetic
card on the side of the die so that it sits flush with the top edge of the die. The
purpose of this is to prevent the laser passing below the material through to the
receiver so the material can be successfully detected and the mute point position
confirmed.
Sections 10.6.19
material sensing should these be required and allowed based on the local safety
regulations.
While the PCSS calculates and confirms the mute or slow speed position, this position can
also be overridden by the position that is sent from the CNC press controller to the PCSS.
The PCSS will then compare its own position with the position sent from the CNC press
controller and use the higher of the two positions.
Where the position from the CNC press controller is being used by the PCSS, rather than the
calculated position, then the PCSS will display the condition code 422B. This ensures that
the operator is aware that a higher mute point has been set from the CNC press controller
and that crawl speed has been activated at this higher position.
Once the mute point has been confirmed, any change in the parameters from the CNC press
controller required to calculate the obstruction position will require the mute point to be
confirmed again based on the updated values. Changing from field muted mode will also
require the mute point to be confirmed again.
The tools normally close at high speed, until the mute point is reached leaving a small gap
between the punch and material. Once the mute point is reached, the obstruction detection
from the laser below the punch is temporarily and automatically suspended. The remaining
distance is then traversed in slow speed.
The PCSS permanently monitors the mute point position and any change to a different
material thickness, which may result in a dangerously increased opening between punch and
material. In this situation, the PCSS would detect that the opening had increased beyond
acceptable limits and would not allow the tools to close until the mute point had been
recalculated based on the different material thickness.
Note:
For all laser guards except the LZS-1, during the mute confirmation stroke the
mute point position will be raised slightly higher by the PCSS than occurs during
normal operation of the system. When using the standard PCSS interface
method with the CNC correctly with the provided communications options
available in the PCSS, the mute point position will automatically be accepted by
the CNC. Therefore slow speed down movement will automatically occur from
this position.
This is needed to ensure that the position captured for the obstruction from the
surface of the material is detected as accurately as possible while down
movement is in slow speed.
If the CNC does not adhere to the standard PCSS interface method and
therefore does not accept the mute point position from the PCSS, it will then be
necessary for the operator to manually set the slow speed at the higher required
position. Failure to follow this procedure and the mute point position as set by
the PCSS during the mute confirmation stroke will result in the material being
detected incorrectly at a lower than expected position. As a result of this it is then
