Introduction
The Lazer Safe PCSS (Press Control Safety System) is a programmable operational control
and safety system designed specifically to enhance the performance and safety of press
brakes. It can be used in conjunction with the Lazer Safe LZS Operator Guarding to provide
a highly effective and efficient single-supplier solution. It is also possible to use other types
of light guard systems such as light curtains should a different guarding solution be required.
The Lazer Safe PCSS provides protection and is certified to the following standards in the
table below.
EN 61496-1:2013, IEC 61496-1:2012
EN 61496-2:2013, IEC 61496-2:2012
EN ISO 13849-1:2015, cat. 4 / PL 'e'
EN IEC 60204-1:2018
EN 62061:2005+A1:2013, SIL 3
EN 12622:2009+A1:2013, section 5. 1. 5
The PCSS has been evaluated for UL General Safety compliance only. The software
functionality, reliability and the safety features were not evaluated by UL.
The PCSS replaces conventional contactors or general-purpose safety Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLCs) currently used for the control of press brakes and associated guarding
systems. All press control, press safety and press operator guarding are handled by the
PCSS unit. A variety of inputs and outputs are available and are configurable for standard
non-safety functions through to full safety functions as detailed in

Four types of PCSS systems, PCSS-A0, PCSS-A0 Plus, PCSS-A1 and PCSS-A2 are
available to suit the different requirements of press brakes being manufactured. Each of
these PCSS systems is software based, and together can be tailored to meet the specific
requirement of any press brake system. A list of features of the PCSS-A0, PCSS-A0 Plus,
PCSS-A1 and A2 models is shown in
