PCSS-A Series Technical Manual
The bending speed is monitored independently for both Y1 and Y2 as well 1 mm prior to
bending of the material as checked by the position encoders connected to the PCSS. Should
crawl speed be exceeded at this position then condition codes 7A08 and 7A09 are displayed
by the PCSS to indicate the bending speed exceeded condition on Y1 or Y2 which will cause
an emergency stop action of the PCSS to be triggered as described in
17.13.5 Light Guard System Types 1 and 2
Only crawl speed is measured and verified to ensure this is within acceptable limits when
using light guard system types 1 or 2. When crawl speed is initiated by the PCSS, speed
monitoring is performed to ensure that the speed does not exceed 10 mm / sec, with a
tolerance of up to 3 mm / sec allowed above this speed for any slight variations.
The crawl speed is monitored independently for both Y1 and Y2 (if configured for Y2) of the
press brake when crawl speed operation is required due to conditions set in the PCSS.
Should crawl speed be exceeded then condition codes 7A00 and 7A01 are displayed by the
PCSS for a crawl speed exceeded condition on Y1 or Y2 which will cause an emergency stop
action of the PCSS to be triggered as described in
An option is available in the PCSS software however which when configured allows pressing
speed in the same manner as is possible with Lazer Safe guarding systems or light guard
type 3. Further information on the configuration of this option can be found in
17.13.6 Light Guard System Type 3
The following speeds are monitored by the PCSS when the light guard type 3 has been
installed and configured:-
Safety Speed – 10 mm / sec. (with TUV tolerance 13 mm / sec.)
Speed required for reduced stopping distance – 35 mm / sec.
Within the PCSS and associated documentation, the Safety Speed is referred to as Crawl
Speed while the Speed required for reduced stopping distance is known as Pressing
Speed.
The crawl speed is monitored independently for both Y1 and Y2 (if configured for Y2) of the
press brake when crawl speed operation is required due to conditions set in the PCSS.
Should crawl speed be exceeded then condition codes 7A00 and 7A01 are displayed by the
PCSS for the crawl speed exceeded condition on Y1 or Y2 which will cause an emergency
stop action of the PCSS to be triggered as described in
As with the crawl speed, the pressing speed is also monitored independently for both Y1 and
Y2 (if configured for Y2) of the press brake when pressing speed operation is required due
to conditions set in the PCSS. Should pressing speed be exceeded then condition codes
7A02 and 7A03 are displayed by the PCSS for the pressing speed exceeded condition on
Y1 or Y2 which will cause an emergency stop action of the PCSS to be triggered as described
in

17.13.7 PCSS Configuration without Guard and Counter
When no counter and guard option has been selected during configuration of the PCSS as
described in
17.14 Shutdown Action
The shutdown action of the PCSS usually occurs with a critical fault condition, such as
hardware failure or malfunction. This action suspends the machine from operation by halting
all operation both in the PCSS kernel software and the ISaGRAF user application, with the
appropriate condition code displayed on the alphanumeric display.
When this action occurs, all communications with the CNC press controller is terminated and
it is therefore not possible to display these types of condition codes on the CNC press
controller. The only way of determining if this condition has occurred from the CNC press
controller is if the controller is able to identify a communications failure with the PCSS and
display an appropriate message. Recovering from this state is only possible after the fault
condition has been resolved and the power cycled off and then on again.
