14 Internet Fax

This chapter explains how to set up the Internet Fax (referred to as iFax) feature of the
machine. The following information is provided.

iFax Overview

If the Internet Fax Software key is installed with the optional Fax Kit in the machine,
you can send and receive the scanned data as attachments, via an intranet or the
Internet. This differs from a facsimile that transmits the data via a telephone line.

Information Checklist

Before enabling this feature, make sure that the following items are available or have
been performed.
An existing operational network utilizing TCP/IP is required. These
procedures are not designed to install a network.
Obtain and record the following information:
• IP address
• Gateway address
• Subnet mask
• Host name
Refer to the Glossary for additional information about the Gateway Address
and Subnet mask.
Set up the mail server and E-mail accounts.
Test the machine to make sure that it is installed fully and functioning
correctly.
Install the Internet Fax Kit.
