5.4 Administrator account and admin functions

The DVNext device comes with one default account, the Administrator. This account has access to the Admin

Functions sub menu, which allows the Administrator to change the various settings and parameters of the device.

The functionality of the Administrator account and the Admin Functions menu will depend on the edition of the

DVNext device (Compliant Edition vs Standard Edition).

The DVNext is available in two different versions: Compliant and Standard. As previously stated in Section 5, the

administrator functions are different between these two versions, so it is very important to identify the version that is

being used. The model number is located on the back of the device can be used for identification. The 9th digit

of the model number signifies the edition of the device, and can be one of the following:

DVNX****C – Compliant Edition DVNext device

DVNX****G – Standard Edition DVNext device

This can also be found in the "Model" section on the device on the startup splash screen and the "about" page. The

different models can be seen below in Figure 5-11, with the Compliant Edition shown on the left and the Standard

Edition shown on the right.

Aside from the difference in model numbers on the device, there are several other differences that can help identify

between the Compliant and Standard Edition DVNext devices. On the Compliant Edition DVNext, there will be a login

button shown on the top left of the main menu screen. On the Standard Edition, no such button will appear. See

Figure 5-12, with the Compliant Edition main menu shown on the left and the Standard Edition shown on the right.

On the Compliant Edition DVNext, the administrator account is automatically logged in when the device is powered

up. The default is no login required (See section 5.4.2). When log in is set to required, the user can log into the

administrator account with the default password. By default, the administrator password is "admin". After logging into

the administrator account for the first time when requiring login, the user will be required to set a new password for

the administrator account.
