Engine oil change intervals and monitoring
Engine oil change intervals
Standard change interval for the engine oil is mentioned in the technical documentation
accompanying the diesel engine (see "maintenance schedule" section). Additionally, the change
interval is also influenced by the engine oil initial quality and the severity of the operation.
The following types of operation are considered as "severe":
– Frequent cold starts
– Extended non operated period (standstill)
– Severe ambient conditions:

Extreme operating temperatures (cold or hot)
·
High humidity
·
Dust
Always refer to the technical documentation of the diesel engine to determine the engine oil
change interval. In most of the case, the following definition applies: Change interval = Basic
engine oil change interval * Engine oil category factor * Sulfur content factor
Where:
– Standard engine oil change interval is indicated in the technical documentation of the diesel
engine.
– Engine oil category factor is defined in the table on KD engine oil category factors
(→ tab. 51, p.
