5.5.4 Post-maintenance engine starting

Previous tasks
Make sure that the following preconditions are met:
q Maintenance activities are completed.
q The lockout/tagout procedure is completed.
Specific safety instructions
WARNING
Toxic exhaust gas inhalation!
Risk of lung disease or injury by irritation.
u Make sure that there is a proper evacuation of exhaust gas.
u Ensure a good ventilation while running the engine.
Consumables and equipment
Not applicable.
Starting engine
u Start the engine.
Information
If air migrated into the fuel system, the first start attempt may require a longer time than a
usual start.
u Run the engine at low idle speed.

u Observe the engine running at idle speed.
u Record and report any defect found on the engine (for example: leak, unusual noise, unusual
vibration, unusual exhaust gas color).
u Record and report any anomaly found on the generator set display (for example: faulty
parameter).
u Shut the engine down.
u Check visually for leaks in engine oil, fuel, and cooling systems.
u If required, run functional tests.
u Record and report the intervention.
Information
In the report of the intervention, include at least operating hours, replaced parts, additional
interventions required if necessary.
If necessary, place an order to restock the parts used during maintenance activities.
