Expansion Stages and System Capacity
3.2.4
Media proxy
The media proxy component provides secure communication (RTP) between the SIP trunk and the internal
IP endpoint.
Uses of media proxy:
•
Media proxy component is configurable on SMBC, that is, enable/disable, Start Rtp, and so on.
•
Media proxy component supports a maximum of 50 connections simultaneously
•
Media proxy component supports IP to IP connections. IP to TDM connections is not supported.
•
Media proxy component is used in relation with the SIP trunk functionality only. The proxy component is
prioritized for calls from/to a SIP trunk.
Standalone scenario:
•
In the company LAN, SIP terminals are located.
•
In an IP to IP call, the Media Proxy is used to process the RTP stream between the internal and
external party.
•
For calls between the external party (SIP provider) and an internal party using a non-SIP/IP terminal,
the onboard Standard Media Switch (StMS) is used.

Expansion with cards and modules
A basic system can be individually expanded using interface cards and system modules. The number and
position of the available slots are described in the chapter
3.3.1
System modules
With system modules a distinction is made between modules expandable as an option (DSP modules) and
mandatory modules (CPU module, RAM module). This chapter describes only the system modules that
can be expanded as an option. They expand the resources of the communications server, which means
the system can be expanded step by step in line with requirements.
